The Municipal Government of Pateros is intensifying its waste management and environmental protection programs as part of its continuing support for the rehabilitation of Manila Bay.
Mayor Gerald German led the 2nd Quarter Joint Meeting of the Manila Bay Task Force and Solid Waste Management Board on Thursday, together with Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office Head Regina Legaspi, municipal officials, and partner agencies.

The meeting focused on measures to strengthen solid waste management, protect waterways, improve public sanitation, and maintain cleanliness and order across the municipality. Officials also discussed cleanup operations in esteros and waterways, which are critical in preventing waste from flowing into river systems connected to Manila Bay.

The local government said the rehabilitation of Manila Bay requires sustained action not only from national agencies, but also from local governments and communities whose drainage systems, waterways, and waste disposal practices affect the bay’s condition.

Among the priorities discussed were stricter implementation of environmental and sanitation ordinances, wider public compliance with proper waste segregation, and more active community participation in cleanup activities.
Officials also stressed the need to reinforce discipline among residents, particularly in the proper disposal of garbage and the maintenance of clean surroundings in homes, streets, markets, and public spaces.

The municipal government said these efforts are part of its broader push to build a cleaner, safer, and more orderly Pateros while contributing to the long-term restoration of Manila Bay.
Residents were urged to support government-led environmental programs by practicing waste segregation, disposing of trash properly, and taking part in community cleanup drives.
The municipality emphasized that simple and consistent actions by residents can help reduce pollution, improve public health, and protect waterways for the next generation.
