Palace Hits ‘Speculation,’ Urges Evidence-Based Claims on Impeachment Issue

Malacañang on Sunday called for evidence-based allegations and cautioned public officials against making accusations founded on speculation or hearsay amid claims surrounding the impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte.

Palace Press Officer Claire Castro stressed that accusations carry more weight when supported by proof, saying some officials have become accustomed to relying on conjecture instead of evidence.

“Mas may credibility kung sa bawat paghuhusga, may kasama ng ebidensya. Nasasanay na po ang mga ilang nakakataas na opisyal natin na sa haka-haka na lamang bumabase,” Castro said.

She also warned against emulating former president Rodrigo Duterte, whom she said had previously claimed he knew how to create intrigue and plant evidence.

“Huwag tularan!” Castro said in a message to reporters.

Castro issued the statement after Senator Imee Marcos alleged that the Office of the Ombudsman was preparing to file charges against lawmakers who would refuse to support the impeachment of the Vice President.

The House Committee on Justice earlier unanimously approved its committee report finding probable cause to impeach Duterte on allegations of culpable violation of the Constitution, betrayal of public trust, corruption, and other high crimes.
