With Honey, I’m Home out, Someone, Someday marking his return to primetime and Haunted Carnival taking him into horror, James Reid is pursuing music and acting simultaneously rather than choosing between them.
James Reid has three very different projects competing for his attention: a deeply personal album, a return to television drama and a horror movie that has him running, screaming and confronting a genre he has never attempted before.
It is an unusually packed stretch for the 33-year-old singer-actor, whose career in recent years has leaned heavily toward music.
His third studio album, Honey, I’m Home, was released on September 10. At the same time, Reid has been seen opposite Kathryn Bernardo in Someone, Someday, while another transformation is underway as he works on Haunted Carnival, an official entry to the 2026 Metro Manila Film Festival.
Rather than signaling a move away from music, the acting projects show Reid expanding his creative workload again.
‘Honey, I’m Home’ gets personal
At the center of Reid’s current slate is a 10-track album that moves through R&B, soul and pop while experimenting with funk, rock and other influences.
Reid worked extensively with artist-producer Luke April, who produced most of the record and became one of its key creative collaborators. Brian Lotho handled production on “Richest Man Alive” and album closer “Unbecoming.”
The record also brings several artists into Reid’s musical world.
Arthur Nery appears on the intimate R&B track “All Night,” while Luke April joins Reid on “Sunny Side.” Reid’s partner Issa Pressman features on “On My Way,” a song that originally began as Pressman’s own track before Reid contributed a verse and ultimately incorporated it into the album.
But Honey, I’m Home is not simply a collection of collaborations.
Reid has described identity as the element holding the record together, distinguishing it from earlier projects that were connected more by a particular mood or concept.
The songs consequently move between romance, gratitude, confidence and vulnerability.
“Traffic,” for example, turns the familiar frustration of being stuck on the road into a broader song about obstacles separating someone from a person, opportunity or ambition. “Sunny Side” reflects a more carefree Reid who feels increasingly comfortable ignoring outside judgment. “Richest Man Alive” examines wealth through relationships and simple experiences rather than material possessions.
The most revealing material comes later.
Reid and Pressman co-wrote “Indiana” around the idea of speaking to a future child — someone who does not yet exist but whom they can already imagine loving. Reid said the song took longer to write than the others because of what they wanted it to communicate.
“Unbecoming,” meanwhile, closes the album by turning inward. Reid has connected the track to learning that vulnerability can be a strength after years of responding to criticism by emotionally shutting things out.
That gives the record a progression: it begins with the idea of arriving home to another person and ends by examining whether that sense of security first has to exist within oneself.
Acting returns to the picture
While Reid was preparing his third album, another part of his career was gathering momentum.
Someone, Someday placed him back in a major television drama opposite Kathryn Bernardo, with Maja Salvador completing its central trio.
Reid plays Jordan, best friend to Bernardo’s Billy, the CEO of dating app Love List. Their relationship develops as Billy deals with pressures involving her family, business and the arrival of Salvador’s mysterious character, Abby. The series is directed by Chad V. Vidanes and Dolly Dulu.
The pairing was significant because it put Reid and Bernardo together as lead stars after both became identified with different screen partnerships earlier in their careers.
It also gave Reid a substantial acting vehicle after a period in which music had occupied much of his professional attention.
The series premiered on streaming platforms and television in late July. ABS-CBN reported in August that it reached No. 1 among television series on Netflix Philippines and entered Netflix’s Top 10 lists in Singapore and Malaysia following its premiere.
Reid has since wrapped his portion of the production.
There was little time, however, for an extended break.
A shot at horror
Reid’s next screen assignment sends him away from contemporary drama and into an entirely different genre.
He is part of the cast of Haunted Carnival, one of the first four official entries announced for the 52nd Metro Manila Film Festival.
Directed by Joey De Guzman, the horror movie features an ensemble that includes Julia Barretto, Fyang Smith, Maricel Soriano and John Arcilla alongside Reid.
The project marks Reid’s first foray into horror.
Production has taken him to locations in Bulacan and Pampanga, and Reid has already acknowledged that shooting the genre is physically draining.
The contrast with his other current projects is striking.
In one, he is writing intimate music about love and emotional openness. In another, he plays a best friend in a contemporary romantic drama. And in Haunted Carnival, he is entering the heightened physical world of horror for the first time.
That range may be the more interesting story behind Reid’s current career phase.
No longer choosing just one lane
Reid has already moved through several versions of a show-business career.
He became a household name through television, built a major screen partnership, moved into movies and recording, and eventually devoted greater attention to developing his own musical identity.
Honey, I’m Home does not erase any of those earlier versions of James Reid. Nor does his acting return suggest he is retreating from the musical direction he spent years establishing.
Instead, his 2026 workload points toward a career in which those parts can coexist.
The album is arguably his most personal statement in that equation. Its collaborators, genre shifts and subject matter show Reid working from a place increasingly removed from the pop-star template of his earlier career.
At the same time, Someone, Someday demonstrates that television remains part of his repertoire, while Haunted Carnival gives him an opportunity to test himself in a genre audiences have not previously associated with him.
There is an accidental appropriateness to calling the album Honey, I’m Home at this particular point.
Reid is back on television. He’s back on a movie set. He’s releasing music at the same time.
But rather than returning to an old version of his career, he appears to be building one spacious enough to accommodate all three.
