Buizon, Lua and Canlas will continue making up Over October after this month’s departures
Over October will head into November with three members after announcing rhythm guitarist Anton Rodriguez’s departure, alongside drummer Janessa Geronimo’s previously disclosed exit at the end of this month.
The Filipino band confirmed Rodriguez’s departure on Sunday, October 25, saying their directions had diverged.
“Sadly, our paths are no longer aligned,” the group said. “We wish him all the best as he focuses on other priorities.”
Josh Buizon, Josh Lua and Joric Canlas will carry on as Over October. The band also thanked its supporters, known as Octobears, as it acknowledged the changes in its lineup.
Rodriguez’s exit follows a significant moment for the original five members. On October 4, they performed at the New Frontier Theater in a concert that celebrated their 12-year journey and served as a farewell tribute to Geronimo. The show revisited early material alongside newer releases, with guests including APO Hiking Society, Ena Mori and Angela Ken.
Geronimo had announced her decision months earlier. In her farewell message, she explained that her dreams had changed after years of making music with the group. She expressed gratitude for the friendships and experiences built during that time.
The departures come after a period in which Over October reached a wider audience through “Ikot.” The single entered the Billboard Philippines Hot 100 in 2024, marking a chart milestone for the band. “Kaakit-Akit” followed as the group continued releasing music beyond its breakthrough hit.
For listeners who discovered them through those songs, and those who followed their earlier gigs, the next performances will feature a different lineup.
