The North Luzon Expressway Corporation (NLEX) has postponed the May 4, 2026 reopening of a key road segment in Quezon City to allow additional curing time for newly completed concrete works under the NLEX-C5 project.
In a statement, the Quezon City government said the affected stretch—Katipunan Kaliwa Street/Lokaria Street from Mindanao Avenue to King Alexander Street—will remain closed beyond the original schedule to ensure the durability of the road surface.
“The reopening will be moved to give way to the curing process, which will take about four more days to ensure road integrity,” the city government said.
During this period, limited access will be allowed under a stop-and-go traffic scheme. Only Class 1 vehicles, including cars, vans, motorcycles, and sport utility vehicles, will be permitted to pass through.
Motorists traveling near Mindanao Avenue and King Alexander Street are advised to take alternative routes and plan their trips ahead to avoid congestion. Traffic enforcers will be deployed in the area, and directional signage will be installed to guide drivers.
The road segment is part of Northlink Segment 8.2 Section 1A, a two-kilometer portion of the NLEX-C5 project designed to serve as a 24/7 east-west truck route. The project aims to ease congestion along Mindanao Avenue and Quirino Highway and will include additional entry and exit points near the Quirino Avenue area.
Construction of the segment began on February 15, 2025, with an initial target completion date of February 14, 2026.
The broader NLEX-C5 North Link Project forms part of Metro Pacific Tollways Corp.’s infrastructure pipeline under its “Road to 100B Revenue by 2030” initiative.
