Sen. Rodante Marcoleta was brought to the PNP General Hospital on Monday afternoon after complaining of chest pain following his arrest in connection with a plunder case, according to Maj. Gen. Robert Morico, chief of the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group.

“Senator Marcoleta complained of chest pain; his BP (blood pressure) is high, so we brought him to the hospital,” Morico told reporters in an interview.

Morico said Marcoleta was scheduled to undergo an electrocardiogram test as part of his medical examination.

“His medical (examination) is ongoing, his ECG…If he is fit to travel, then we will be returning the warrant today with the Sandiganbayan. We will wait,” Morico said.

Asked about Marcoleta’s blood pressure, Morico said: “(It’s) 150 something. He is 72 years old.”

Morico said Marcoleta’s co-accused, former Quezon City Rep. Michael Defensor and businessman Joseph Espiritu, had already been brought to the Sandiganbayan.

“We will wait for the commitment order (for Defensor and Espiritu),” Morico said.

Marcoleta, Defensor, and Espiritu were arrested by police on Monday in relation to their P75-million plunder case before the Sandiganbayan.

Their co-accused, businessman Aristotle Viray, remains at large.
