The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority has deployed L-shaped flood barriers along Gate 4 of Camp Aguinaldo as part of efforts to prevent runoff from inundating EDSA during heavy rainfall.
The barriers are designed to block water flowing from the higher elevation of Camp Aguinaldo and prevent it from spilling onto the major thoroughfare.
The MMDA said the measure is expected to help reduce flooding and maintain safer and smoother traffic flow along one of Metro Manila’s busiest roads during severe weather conditions.
The L-shaped flood barrier is a flood protection technology developed in Japan and adopted by the MMDA to strengthen its disaster preparedness and flood control operations.
Japanese experts also trained MMDA personnel on the proper installation, operation and maintenance of the barriers to ensure their effective use.
The initiative forms part of the agency’s broader efforts to improve flood resilience and protect motorists and commuters across Metro Manila.
