Malacañang emphasized its commitment to the constitutional separation of powers as it formally recognized the Supreme Court’s decision to dismiss separate petitions challenging the Senate’s voting threshold rules in the ongoing impeachment proceedings.
Executive Secretary Ralph Recto confirmed that the administration accepts the High Tribunal’s action throwing out the legal challenges on procedural grounds, affirming that the judiciary’s decision respects the Senate’s sole authority to determine its internal rules as an Impeachment Court.
”We respect the decision of the Supreme Court to dismiss the petitions,” Recto said during a Malacañang briefing.
Recto emphasized that the executive branch maintains a neutral stance on the procedural mechanics established by the Senate, leaving the conduct of the trial entirely to the legislative body.
”The Senate as an Impeachment Court has its own rules, and the Supreme Court has ruled accordingly on its jurisdiction,” Recto also said.
The High Court’s ruling effectively clears the remaining judicial obstacles surrounding the Senate’s modified conviction calculation, allowing the impeachment trial against Vice President Sara Duterte to proceed without legal interruptions.
