The Makati City Police Station has clarified that a social media post claiming widespread riding-in-tandem robberies and hold-up incidents in the city was a repost of an old allegation.
The clarification came after a Facebook post resurfaced in the Philippines_Expats thread, alleging frequent robberies along Salcedo and Valero Streets in Barangay Bel-Air.
Police said the incidents cited in the post allegedly occurred last year and urged the public to verify information before sharing it online.
The Makati police, led by City Police Chief Col. Pedro A. Alagano Jr., said it continues to take all reports and public concerns seriously while upholding transparency and accountability.
Authorities said security measures across the city have been intensified, including increased checkpoint operations, mobile and foot patrols, and the strategic deployment of personnel at key border control points.
The measures are being implemented in coordination with the Makati City government and other force multipliers to deter criminal activity.
Police said community engagement initiatives are also continuing to strengthen public awareness and encourage cooperation between residents and law enforcement agencies in preventing crime.
The Makati police urged social media users to exercise caution when posting or sharing information, stressing the need to verify facts and avoid spreading unconfirmed or speculative claims that could cause unnecessary public alarm.
