A price freeze on household liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in cylinders of 11 kilograms and below, as well as kerosene products, has taken effect in General Santos City following the declaration of a State of Calamity due to the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck parts of Mindanao on June 8.
According to the Department of Energy (DOE), the price freeze was automatically triggered after local authorities placed General Santos City under a State of Calamity in response to the earthquake’s impact.
Under existing regulations, the prices of household LPG and kerosene covered by the order cannot be increased during the implementation period. The price freeze will remain in effect for 15 days from the date of the State of Calamity declaration.
The measure aims to protect consumers from excessive price increases and ensure the continued availability of essential fuel products for affected residents during disaster response and recovery efforts.
The DOE reminded fuel retailers and distributors to strictly comply with the price freeze and encouraged the public to remain vigilant and report any violations to the proper authorities.
