Lacson: Flood Control Anger Won’t Fade Without ‘Genuine’ Retribution, Restitution

Public anger over alleged irregularities in flood control projects will not subside without genuine accountability and the return of misused funds, Sen. Panfilo Lacson warned.

Lacson noted that recent heavy monsoon rains, which forced class and work suspensions and evacuated families across several regions, have reignited public outrage over the controversial infrastructure projects.

“The flood control issue will not go away easily. After a heavy downpour leaves flooded streets and yards, people will not be short on words in cursing politicians, Department of Public Works and Highways officials and contractors — unless, and this probably — genuine retribution and restitution become the order of the day no matter who were involved,” Lacson said in a post on X.

The lawmaker previously exposed alleged corruption in flood control initiatives across Bulacan and Mindoro during two privilege speeches delivered in August and September last year.

His privilege speeches identified several DPWH officials, contractors and lawmakers allegedly involved in kickback schemes for anomalous projects, leading to formal cases filed before the Ombudsman.
