A coordinated law enforcement operation led by the Philippine National Police (PNP), with support from the 8th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army, resulted in the arrest of a wanted drug suspect in Tacloban City on June 10, 2026.
Authorities identified the suspect as Achilles Ubas y Perpenial, alias “Aki,” who was apprehended at Barangay 25, Paterno Extension, Tacloban City by joint elements of the Tacloban City Mobile Force Company and Task Group Tacloban.
The arrest was carried out by virtue of a warrant issued by the Regional Trial Court Branch 46 in Tacloban City on April 26, 2026, for alleged violations of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. The case involves charges related to the sale, distribution, and transport of illegal drugs, with no bail recommended.
Following the operation, the suspect was immediately turned over to proper authorities for documentation and judicial processing.
The 8th Infantry Division said the successful operation highlights the continuing cooperation between the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the PNP in maintaining peace and order, particularly in urban communities.
It added that while military units continue operations against remaining insurgent threats in Eastern Visayas, sustained collaboration with law enforcement is also crucial in addressing criminal activity and protecting public safety in cleared and stable areas.
“The Armed Forces remain committed to supporting our law enforcement partners in ensuring safe, secure, and resilient communities,” the 8ID said, stressing that peace and security are upheld not only through the absence of armed conflict but through the consistent enforcement of law and order.
Authorities reiterated that inter-agency coordination between the AFP, PNP, and local government units remains key in sustaining peace gains and ensuring communities remain protected from both insurgency-related threats and illegal drugs.
