Intensified PNP Drive Against Illegal Firearms Yields 65 Guns, 8 Explosives

The Philippine National Police (PNP), through the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), has intensified its nationwide campaign against loose firearms and illegal explosives, resulting in the seizure of 65 firearms and eight explosive devices during a coordinated 15-day enforcement period in the first half of June 2026.

From June 1 to 15, CIDG units conducted a series of lawful operations across multiple regions, combining search warrant implementation and targeted police actions. The operations also led to the arrest of 44 individuals and the recovery of various high-risk firearms, including light and small arms, which authorities immediately removed from circulation to prevent potential criminal use.

Field operations in several provinces, including separate missions in Negros Occidental and Batangas, underscored coordination among CIDG regional and provincial units. In these areas, multiple loose firearms were recovered in single operations, reflecting sustained focus on proactive enforcement and community safety.

PNP Chief Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. commended operating units for what he described as firm but lawful implementation of operations, emphasizing the importance of sustained action against illegal firearms in protecting communities.

“Ang bawat nakukuhang ilegal na armas ay katumbas ng mas ligtas na komunidad. Patuloy nating pinapalakas ang ating operasyon upang masiguro na hindi ito magagamit sa anumang gawaing makakasama sa ating mga kababayan,” Nartatez said.

He added that the results support the PNP Focused Agenda under Enhanced Managing Police Operations, which strengthens coordinated and intelligence-driven policing aligned with the peace and order priorities of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

The PNP also urged continued public cooperation, calling on communities to report information on illegal firearms and other security threats, noting that citizen support remains crucial in sustaining law enforcement gains nationwide.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to disciplined and responsive policing as it continues its campaign for public safety under the guiding principle: “Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat at Nararamdaman.”
