The Senate impeachment court has authorized Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) Secretariat Executive Director Ronel Buenaventura to take the witness stand and present financial intelligence reports detailing banking transactions connected to Vice President Sara Duterte and her husband, attorney Manases Carpio.
The ruling clears the way for the prosecution panel to introduce covered and suspicious transaction records into evidence, overriding defense objections regarding financial confidentiality laws.
House prosecutors signaled that the upcoming testimony serves as a crucial component of Article II of the impeachment complaint, which alleges undeclared wealth and discrepancies in official asset disclosures.
“This phase of the proceedings will focus strictly on verifiable documentary evidence, audit logs, and accounting records,” trial prosecutors said.
They also said presenting primary AMLC officials ensures that the court evaluates direct, authenticated accounts of all contested transactions.
The tribunal’s decision allows financial investigators to cross-reference recorded banking inflows and investment transfers against the Vice President’s historical Statements of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALNs) as formal proceedings continue.
