HPG Flags Fake Registration, Loan-Tied Vehicles In Anti-Carnapping Drive

The Philippine National Police–Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) successfully recovered several motor vehicles and a motorcycle through intensified anti-carnapping operations, motor vehicle verification activities, and police assistance conducted in Pampanga, Zambales, Pangasinan, and Surigao del Sur on June 9, 2026.

In Pampanga, personnel of the Provincial Highway Patrol Team (PHPT) recovered a Toyota Innova after the possessor voluntarily surrendered the vehicle upon learning that its Certificate of Registration was found to be spurious during the processing of a motor vehicle clearance application. Verification with the Land Transportation Office confirmed that the documents presented were falsified.

In Olongapo City, personnel of PHPT-Zambales recovered a Toyota Vios allegedly involved in a Talon Casa Scheme after it was flagged down during an anti-carnapping operation for a traffic violation. Subsequent verification revealed that the vehicle remained encumbered with a financing institution.

Meanwhile, in Pangasinan, personnel of Pangasinan PHPT impounded a Hyundai Elantra Sedan after it was flagged down for using an improvised plate without proper authority. The driver failed to present the required Certificate of Registration and Official Receipt, prompting authorities to impound the vehicle for further verification and investigation.

In Butuan City, personnel of the Regional Highway Patrol Unit 13 recovered a Honda CFT125 motorcycle that had been reported under a local alarm for “Failed to Return” (FTR). The motorcycle was intercepted during an anti-carnapping operation and implementation of the “No Plate, No Travel Policy” after it was flagged down for a defective taillight. Verification confirmed that the motorcycle was listed as locally alarmed under an FTR complaint.

PNP-HPG Director PBGEN ROMMEL S. BATANGAN lauded the operating units for their vigilance and commitment in addressing motor vehicle-related offenses.

“These recoveries demonstrate the effectiveness of our intensified anti-carnapping operations, motor vehicle verification activities, and public cooperation. We encourage vehicle owners and prospective buyers to exercise due diligence in all vehicle transactions and immediately report suspicious activities to authorities.”
