A House senior leader said the House of Representatives is closely coordinating with lawmakers from earthquake-affected areas in Mindanao to identify and deliver needed assistance to affected communities.
House Majority Leader and Ilocos Rep. Ferdinand Alexander “Sandro” Marcos made the assurance as government agencies continue damage assessments following the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck off Sarangani province, triggering evacuations and disrupting services in several areas.
“We are in constant communication with all of those affected to make sure that the leadership gives everything that it can sa ating mga kababayan na apektado,” Marcos said in an ambush interview.
He said the type of assistance to be extended will depend on the specific needs identified on the ground, including medical aid, relief goods, and other forms of support.
“Whether it be MAIP or medical assistance, whether it be relief goods, whether it be anything that the House can provide,” he noted.
The Ilocos Norte solon also noted that House Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III has personally visited affected areas, including General Santos City and Sarangani province, to assess the situation and coordinate with local officials.
During his visit, Dy inspected key infrastructure such as the General Santos International Airport and met with local leaders as part of ongoing relief and coordination efforts.
The powerful quake affected multiple provinces in Mindanao and prompted tsunami warnings, with authorities continuing to evaluate damage to infrastructure and residential areas.
Marcos said the House remains prepared to extend further assistance as recovery and rehabilitation efforts progress in coordination with national and local agencies.
“We are in constant communication with all of those affected,” he reiterated.
