First Lady to Expand Rice Aid Distribution in Metro Manila, Bacolod

First Lady Louise “Liza” Araneta-Marcos is set to continue the nationwide rollout of her rice distribution initiative aimed at providing immediate assistance to indigent and vulnerable Filipino families.

The “Mula sa Puso Para sa Pamilya” program will be brought to San Juan, Valenzuela, Muntinlupa, Parañaque, Mandaluyong, and Bacolod in the next two weeks.

Under the initiative, beneficiaries receive five to 10 kilos of rice as part of efforts to extend relief to households facing daily economic challenges.

Araneta-Marcos launched the program last week in Quezon City and Manila, where around 6,800 beneficiaries received rice assistance.

Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte, Manila Mayor Francisco Domagoso, and San Juan Mayor Francis Zamora joined the First Lady during the initial rollout of the program.

The rice distributed under the initiative was sourced from local farmers, according to the program details.

In one of her speeches during last week’s distribution, Araneta-Marcos said she understood, as a mother, the importance of ensuring that families have food on the table.

“We cannot eradicate poverty 100 percent, but we can at least do a bit to lessen the burden in the days to come,” she said.

She said the program seeks not only to provide food assistance but also to convey solidarity, compassion, and hope to Filipino families.

The government, through local government units, has also been providing 10 kilos of rice to members of vulnerable sectors every two months, or six times a year, under a program funded through the Local Government Support Fund.
