Walter Villagonzalo, a former Philippine Navy officer turned community leader, entrepreneur, and multicultural advocate in Australia, will speak at the Political Panel of the 2026 Filipino Diaspora Summit.
Villagonzalo is expected to bring to the summit decades of experience in public service, migrant empowerment, business leadership, and diaspora engagement, particularly in strengthening ties between the Philippines and Australia.
A respected figure in the Filipino-Australian community, Villagonzalo previously served as Deputy Mayor of Wyndham City in Victoria, Australia. He also held the post of Honorary Investment and Trade Representative of the Philippines in Victoria, a role that allowed him to help promote trade, investment, and economic cooperation between the two countries.
Beyond government service, Villagonzalo has been active in initiatives supporting migrant entrepreneurship, community development, and greater economic participation for multicultural communities.
His work reflects the growing role of overseas Filipinos as civic leaders, economic partners, and bridge-builders between their adopted countries and the Philippines.
In 2025, Villagonzalo was awarded the Order of Australia Medal in recognition of his contributions to community service and multicultural engagement.
His participation in the 2026 Filipino Diaspora Summit is expected to add depth to discussions on diaspora leadership, political participation, international cooperation, and the role of overseas Filipinos in national development.
