Expert Says Trust, Confidence Key to Boosting Overseas Filipino Investment

Trust and confidence are crucial to encouraging greater investment and engagement from overseas Filipinos, according to Dr. Toby Melissa Monsod of the University of the Philippines School of Economics.

Reflecting on discussions during the Economic Engagement panel, Monsod said a recurring theme that emerged from the presentations was the need to create an enabling environment that can translate the interest of overseas Filipinos into meaningful and sustainable economic participation.

She noted that many overseas Filipinos remain eager to invest, return, and contribute to the country’s development, but emphasized that stronger institutions and a more supportive investment climate are necessary to unlock this potential.

Monsod’s synthesis highlighted the importance of fostering transparency, strengthening institutions, and building confidence in opportunities that allow overseas Filipinos to invest, innovate, and actively participate in national development.

The discussion underscored the vital role of trust and good governance in harnessing the economic potential of the Filipino diaspora and deepening their long-term engagement in the country’s growth and development.
