The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is planning to resume 24/7 rehabilitation work along EDSA during Holy Week in a bid to fast-track the project and meet its July completion target.
Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon said the agency will request approval from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to implement continuous operations from Maundy Thursday to Easter Sunday, when traffic volume in Metro Manila is significantly reduced.
“Hihingi kami ng permiso sa MMDA na mag-24/7 ulit kasi wala namang masyadong tao sa Metro Manila during holy week, lalo na yung (Maundy) Thursday to Easter Sunday… para mapabilis pa lalo,” Dizon said.
The first phase of the EDSA rehabilitation, covering the stretch from Roxas Boulevard to EDSA-Orense in Makati, began on Dec. 24, 2025 and is now close to 50 percent completion.
Currently, major road works such as reblocking and asphalt overlay are limited to 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. to lessen traffic disruption.
Dizon said the DPWH aims to complete the main carriageway by May, with sidewalk improvements targeted for July 2026.
He also announced that procurement for Phase 2 of the rehabilitation project will begin soon, with the next segment extending toward Cubao in Quezon City.
The DPWH said the move to conduct round-the-clock operations during the holiday break is intended to maximize lighter traffic conditions while keeping the project on schedule.
