Free Wi-Fi Rolls Out at Guadalupe Ferry Station

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), in partnership with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), formally launched the Free Public Internet Access Program (FPIAP) at the Guadalupe Ferry Station on June 8, providing free internet access to passengers of the Pasig River Ferry Service (PRFS).

The launch was led by MMDA Deputy Chairman Usec. Frisco San Juan Jr., MMDA General Manager Usec. Nicolas Torre III, and DICT Secretary Henry Aguda.

The MMDA said the rollout of the “Free Wi-Fi for All” initiative at PRFS stations forms part of broader efforts to enhance commuter convenience while supporting the government’s ongoing campaign to revitalize the Pasig River.

MMDA Chairman Atty. Don Artes said the initiative is aligned with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s “Pasig Bigyang Buhay Muli” program, which seeks to restore and maximize the potential of the historic waterway as a viable transportation corridor and public space.

In his message during the launch, Torre emphasized that providing free Wi-Fi access at ferry stations improves the commuting experience and complements the MMDA’s continuing efforts to modernize public services through innovation and technology.

“The availability of free internet connectivity in ferry stations enhances commuter convenience and supports the MMDA’s commitment to improving public service delivery through technological innovation,” Torre said.

For his part, Aguda underscored the importance of expanding digital connectivity not only within the Pasig River Ferry Service but also across transportation hubs, noting that internet access has become an essential service for the public.

The MMDA noted that the first ceremonial activation of the Free Public Internet Access Program was conducted last month at the San Joaquin Ferry Station in Pasig City, marking the beginning of the initiative’s implementation across the ferry network.

The agency said the program is expected to benefit thousands of commuters by providing reliable internet access while traveling through the Pasig River Ferry Service system, further promoting digital inclusion and improving the overall passenger experience.
