DICT Chief Aguda Denies Resignation Rumors, Calls Disinformation ‘Weaponized’

Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Secretary Henry Aguda on Tuesday dismissed rumors that he had resigned from his post, describing the reports as false and part of a broader wave of disinformation aimed at misleading the public.

“I deny the false reports and speculations that I have resigned from my position as Secretary of the Department of Information and Communications Technology,” Aguda said in a statement.

The DICT chief said the circulation of the resignation rumors highlights the growing problem of fake news and deliberate misinformation, which the agency has been actively working to address.

“The DICT has been steadfast in its efforts to combat disinformation and the spread of fake news, and this latest rumor is yet another example of how false narratives can be weaponized to sow confusion and undermine public trust,” he said.

Aguda added that while the attacks were regrettable, they were not unexpected amid the department’s ongoing digital transformation initiatives and recent accomplishments.

“As with all members of the Cabinet, I continue to serve at the pleasure of the President and remain fully committed to the mandate entrusted to me by the administration,” he said.

The DICT secretary also assured the public that the agency remains focused on expanding digital connectivity and pushing programs aimed at making government digitalization more accessible and beneficial to Filipinos.

He said the department would continue prioritizing efforts to accelerate digital transformation and ensure that technology-driven initiatives result in inclusive and meaningful gains for the public.
