DENR, Pasig Map Urban Green Spaces to Strengthen Biodiversity

  • July 15, 2026

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources–National Capital Region and the Pasig City government are assessing the city’s urban green spaces to support biodiversity conservation, climate resilience and sustainable ecosystem management.

The activity is being carried out by the Protected Area Management and Biodiversity Conservation Section of the DENR-NCR’s Conservation and Development Division under the Urban Biodiversity Program.

Teams are gathering scientific data on the condition of trees, vegetative cover and other key components of urban biodiversity.

The DENR said the findings would guide local conservation initiatives and help improve the sustainable management of Pasig’s urban ecosystems.

The data will also be used to update the city’s Biodiversity Index and develop its Urban Biodiversity Management Plan.

The initiative is expected to strengthen conservation programs and support the expansion of green spaces that can improve environmental sustainability and the city’s resilience to climate-related risks.

The DENR-NCR said it would continue working with local governments to promote science-based biodiversity management and build greener, healthier and more sustainable communities across Metro Manila.
