Deadline for Duterte to Answer Charges Until June 1 Only

Vice President Sara Duterte has until 7 pm on Monday, June 1, 2026, to file her answer to the Articles of Impeachment before the Senate impeachment court.

Senate Secretary Jose Luis Montales said Duterte may submit her response personally, through her counsel, or by electronic mail.

“Vice President Sara Duterte has until Monday, 1 June 2026, from 8 am to 7 pm to file her answer to the Articles of Impeachment,” Montales said.

The writ of summons was issued by the Senate impeachment court on May 18 and received by the Office of the Vice President on May 20.

Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano earlier said Duterte was given 10 days to respond. Since the 10th day fell on Saturday, May 30, the deadline was moved to Monday, June 1.

Montales said that official documentation will be handled by the Senate Public Relations and Information Bureau if the vice president or her legal team files the answer in person. Photos and video footage will be made available to the media, subject to the necessary approval process.

The Senate will also tighten security and impose media coverage rules in anticipation of a large number of journalists covering the filing.

“For security and operational reasons, media access shall be limited to the second floor,” Montales said.

Access to the Office of the Senate Secretary on the sixth floor, where the answer will be received and processed, will be restricted to authorized impeachment court officials and members of Duterte’s legal team.

The Quezon and Tolentino rooms on the Senate building’s second floor will serve as media holding and coverage centers. Interviews will not be allowed in hallways, corridors, elevators, stairwells, and other access points.

Any media interaction by Duterte or her lawyers, should they choose to speak, will be limited to the designated rooms.

All media personnel will be required to wear their agency-issued identification cards, and the Senate will enforce a strict “No ID, No Entry” policy.

Montales said the arrangements are meant to ensure an orderly and secure filing process while allowing media coverage of the impeachment development.
