Converge, IBPAP Push AI Readiness for Nearly 2M IT-BPM Workers

Converge ICT Solutions Inc. has partnered with the IT and Business Process Association of the Philippines to help prepare the country’s IT-BPM sector for the rapid changes being driven by artificial intelligence.

The partnership aims to support the continued growth of the sector, a major pillar of the Philippine economy that employed 1.9 million workers and generated US$40 billion in export revenues in 2025, accounting for more than 8 percent of the country’s gross domestic product.

“We need to level up the skills of our workers and transform our industries to enable us to capture the opportunities being offered by the AI boom. At Converge, we have laid down the solid foundation through our national digital infrastructure to support industries, including our BPOs in their AI journey,” Converge chief executive and co-founder Dennis Anthony Uy said.

IBPAP represents the collective interest of the IT and Business Process Management sector, with more than 400 member companies.

The association also works with six industry-specific groups: the Animation Council of the Philippines, Inc., Global Capability Center Philippines, Customer Xperience Association of the Philippines, Game Developers Association of the Philippines, Healthcare Information Management Association of the Philippines, and the Philippine Software Industry Association.

IBPAP president and chief executive Jack Madrid said Converge played an important role in supporting the sector during the pandemic by helping keep business operations connected nationwide.

“During the pandemic, when the world was shutting down, the IT-BPM sector added 260,000 jobs, and connectivity made that possible. Converge was central to that story, keeping our people online and our operations running across the country,” Madrid said.

“That’s why welcoming them as our newest Platinum Member isn’t just a recognition of business value–it’s an acknowledgment of a partner who showed up when it mattered most,” he added.

Uy said Converge’s membership in IBPAP opens more opportunities for industry knowledge-sharing, networking, and collaboration, especially as AI becomes increasingly embedded in business operations.

“Even before we became a member, my mindset has always been to protect this industry of nearly two million workers. Since we are a global hub of business process outsourcing along with India, I’ve wanted to help upskill workers, especially for artificial intelligence-preparedness,” Uy said, noting the need to support the valuable export revenue-generating sector.

Uy said the industry must move beyond basic support functions and prepare workers for more complex, higher-value roles as AI takes over routine tasks.

“We cannot deny that AI is here and will continue to transform industries. Let’s face it: AI handles simple, repetitive tasks cheaper and faster. The future of Philippine BPOs is in complex work, which requires upgrading our workforce from basic support to highly skilled specialists. To make this shift happen, we are here to support the government and the private sector in driving the next wave of growth for this industry,” he added.
