CHED: Proposed Reframed General Education Curriculum Not Yet Final

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) clarified that the proposed reframing of the General Education (GE) curriculum is still under review and has not yet been finalized, amid growing public discussion on the matter.

In a statement, CHED said the proposal remains part of an ongoing consultation process involving higher education institutions (HEIs), faculty groups, students, and professional organizations nationwide.

The clarification came after the agency conducted a large-scale online public hearing on May 5, which gathered more than 4,700 viewers through Facebook Live and around 1,400 participants on Zoom.

According to CHED, all comments, recommendations, and position papers submitted during the consultations will undergo careful evaluation by the Technical Panel for General Education (TPGE). The agency stressed that the review process is intended to ensure that any proposed curriculum changes remain responsive to current educational needs while meeting both national and global standards.

“The process remains deliberate and evidence-based,” CHED said, emphasizing that no final policy has yet been issued.

The proposed reframing forms part of the TPGE’s mandate after the panel was reconstituted in September 2024. The commission said the move was aimed at addressing concerns related to the alignment of the Senior High School curriculum with existing GE programs in colleges and universities.

CHED noted that the panel had already submitted initial recommendations to the Commission en banc, but officials decided to expand consultations further to gather wider sectoral input before making any final decisions.

The agency also assured stakeholders that additional consultation activities will continue in the coming months as part of efforts to keep the policy-making process transparent and inclusive.

CHED said the final policy, once completed, would be based on “careful study, meaningful participation, and the best interests of Filipino learners and higher education.”
