The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) has begun deploying newly acquired Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) vehicles to several regional airports as part of a broader effort to upgrade aviation safety and emergency response systems nationwide.
The new fleet is intended to boost operational readiness and help regional airports comply with international aviation safety standards for emergency response.
Each ARFF unit is equipped with enhanced firefighting capabilities, including a 12,500-liter water tank, 1,750 liters of Aqueous Film Forming Foam (AFFF), and 250 kilograms of Dry Chemical Powder (DCP), allowing for rapid response during aircraft-related emergencies.
CAAP said additional units are set for deployment to airports in Butuan, Siargao, Busuanga, Bicol, General Santos, and Tacloban, expanding coverage across key regional hubs.
Under its modernization plan, the agency requires a total of 46 ARFF vehicles, with 16 units scheduled for procurement this year as part of the initial rollout phase.
The program is part of CAAP’s ongoing fleet upgrade initiative, aligned with directives from President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. and Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez to help strengthen the country’s aviation safety infrastructure.
