BRP Tausug Hosts Reservists, Youth in Dinagat for Maritime Training, Familiarization

Joint Task Force (JTF) Sinaya conducted shipboard training and outreach activities aboard BRP Tausug (LC308) in Dinagat Islands, reinforcing efforts to strengthen maritime awareness, reserve force development, and youth engagement.

On May 2, Task Force Seahawk and Task Group Dinagat welcomed Dinagat Islands Governor Nilo Demerey Jr. during activities tied to reservist mustering and integration training off Basilisa.

The program involved 45 reservists and 37 ROTC cadets from the 1505th Community Defense Center under the 15th Regional Community Defense Group of the Philippine Army Reserve Command. Participants took part in a static display of naval assets and a rubber boat exercise highlighting coordination and operational readiness in maritime settings.

Military officials said the activity aimed to reinforce the role of reservists and cadets in national defense, particularly in coastal and island communities where maritime awareness is critical.

On May 3, BRP Tausug hosted a shipboard familiarization program for youth leaders, with 60 senior scouts, 19 support staff, and 13 adult leaders from the Boy Scouts of the Philippines–Surigao del Norte Council participating.

Participants were introduced to shipboard routines, safety protocols, and basic naval procedures, including demonstrations of standard operations at sea.

Organizers said the program was designed to build discipline, leadership, and awareness of maritime security while encouraging appreciation for the role of naval forces in protecting the country’s waters.

The initiative is part of a program supported by the Provincial Government of Dinagat Islands aimed at promoting youth development through experiential learning and civic engagement.

JTF Sinaya officials said the activities reflect the military’s continuing effort to strengthen ties with local governments and civilian sectors as part of a broader approach to national defense that emphasizes education, participation, and community partnership.
