OCTA: 74 Percent of Filipinos Back Senate Trial for Duterte

Nearly three in four Filipinos believe Vice President Sara Duterte should face trial before the Senate impeachment court to answer the allegations against her, according to a new OCTA Research survey released Monday.

The April 20 to 24 survey found that 74 percent of respondents support allowing the impeachment trial to proceed, up five percentage points from 68 percent in March.

Twenty-one percent said Duterte should not face the Senate trial, while four percent remained undecided.

The nationwide poll covered 1,200 adult respondents and had a margin of error of plus or minus three percentage points.

OCTA said the findings showed public support for the continuation of the constitutional impeachment process. It stressed, however, that the results should not be interpreted as a judgment on Duterte’s guilt, possible conviction, or removal from office.
