Bomb Threat at NU-MOA Prompts Police Response, Shift to Online Classes

An alleged bomb threat reported at National University–Mall of Asia (NU-MOA) on Thursday morning triggered a swift response from law enforcement and emergency services, forcing the institution to temporarily shift onsite classes to remote learning.

According to the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), authorities received a report regarding the threat at approximately 7:50 a.m. on Thursday. The alert stemmed from a post allegedly made on the university’s Facebook page at around 11:26 p.m. on Wednesday.

Police detailed that personnel from the NU-MOA Safety Office were first informed about the social media post via Facebook Messenger. The safety office subsequently relayed the information to a customer relations representative at the MAAX Building, located within the Mall of Asia complex, who then alerted Police Sub-Station 10.

Uniformed officers immediately dispatched to the university grounds to verify the credibility of the threat and secure the perimeter.

“The Pasay EOD/K9 Unit, BFP [Bureau of Fire Protection] Pasay, and the Investigation Section of the Pasay City Police Station were immediately notified and coordinated for appropriate response and assessment,” the NCRPO said.

Investigators from the Pasay City Police Station’s Investigation and Detective Management Section have also launched a probe to trace the origin of the social media post and identify the individual behind the threat.

In response to the early morning alert, NU-MOA management temporarily suspended in-person activities and shifted all morning classes to online synchronous and asynchronous learning as a precautionary measure while authorities conducted a thorough sweep of the premises. In a notice to the university community, school officials indicated that onsite classes and examinations were expected to resume by 1:00 p.m.

As of publication time, NU-MOA management has yet to release an official public statement regarding the incident. Police clearance operations and investigations remain ongoing.
