Balikatan Drills Boost PH-US Combat Lifesaving Skills

Filipino artillery troops conducted joint high-intensity training with United States Army medics in Samar, sharpening critical battlefield medical skills as part of Exercise Balikatan 41-2026.

Held from April 20 to 22 at Daniel Z. Romualdez Airport in Catbalogan City, the three-day Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) training brought together personnel from the Philippine Army Artillery Regiment and their US counterparts to enhance lifesaving capabilities in combat and emergency situations.

The training focused on essential skills such as hemorrhage control, airway management, casualty evacuation, and prolonged field care, all conducted under realistic, high-pressure scenarios simulating battlefield conditions. Military officials emphasized that the ability to save lives is as critical as combat readiness.

Beyond technical instruction, the activity also served as a platform for knowledge exchange, with Philippine Army personnel sharing field-tested techniques and operational insights alongside US counterparts, highlighting the value of two-way learning.

The exercise underscored growing interoperability between the two forces, strengthening coordination and professional trust to support seamless operations in complex environments.

Officials said the initiative reflects the Philippine Army’s continued push to develop soldiers who are not only mission-ready but also equipped with humanitarian and medical response skills, reinforcing a more adaptive and people-centered force.
