The deaths of student-athletes Rene Baterbonia and Divine Adili have sparked an outpouring of grief and calls for accountability from the Ateneo community and beyond.

Leaders and public figures expressed condolences to the families, teammates, and the wider school community, emphasizing the need to honor the memories of the two young men while respecting the dignity and privacy of their grieving relatives.

Amid ongoing investigations into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy, there are demands to uncover the full truth. Observers stressed that any negligence or lapses contributing to the incident must be addressed and those responsible held accountable.

“The families and teammates of Rene and Divine deserve support, justice, and clarity about what led to this heartbreaking event,” Sen. Risa Hontiveros said in a statement, underscoring the collective responsibility to ensure such incidents do not recur.

Authorities continue to investigate the incident, with stakeholders urging transparency and the release of findings to provide closure for the families and the Ateneo community.
