The misuse of artificial intelligence to compromise the political neutrality of the armed forces has drawn sharp condemnation from the Philippine Army, following the online proliferation of a manipulated image depicting soldiers endorsing a sitting legislator.
The fake image circulating on social media platforms falsely portrays troops of the 10th Infantry (Agila) Division as backing Senator Bato dela Rosa, fabricating an endorsement that misrepresents the institution’s non-partisan stance.
“An AI-generated image circulating on social media falsely portrays personnel of the 10th Infantry (Agila) Division, Philippine Army, as expressing political support for Senator Bato dela Rosa. The manipulated image misrepresents the professionalism and political neutrality of military personnel by fabricating an endorsement that could mislead the public,” the 10th Infantry (Agila) Division said.
Mililtary authorities cautioned that synthesized media and digital manipulations pose a growing threat to public information integrity, prompting calls for citizens to exercise heightened scrutiny before propagating unverified online content.
“The 10th Infantry (Agila) Division calls on the public to remain vigilant against AI-generated disinformation and manipulated content. Everyone is urged to verify information through official sources before sharing unverified posts to help prevent the spread of false information and protect the integrity of the Philippine Army,” the 10ID also said.
The command emphasized that the division maintains a strict commitment to serving the country without political bias or preference.
“The 10ID upholds its commitment to professionalism, political neutrality, and service to the Filipino people, without political affiliation or preference. The Division stands firmly against disinformation and the misuse of artificial intelligence to misrepresent its personnel, emphasizing that its official positions and statements are communicated only through authorized channels,” the 10ID added.
