Airspace Restrictions Imposed Around Mayon Volcano After Eruption

Airspace restrictions have been imposed around Mayon Volcano following its recent eruption, with aviation authorities warning of potential disruptions to flights in affected areas.

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM B1875/26), prohibiting all aircraft from flying within a 6-kilometer radius of the volcano’s summit, from ground level up to 11,000 feet.

The restriction is meant to protect aircraft from volcanic ash and airborne particles, which can damage engines, disrupt navigation systems, and pose serious safety risks.

Airlines, pilots, and flight operators have been advised to coordinate closely with air traffic control and monitor official updates before operating near the affected airspace.

Travelers are encouraged to check with airlines for possible changes to flight routes or schedules, especially for flights passing near the Bicol Region.

Authorities said they are continuing to monitor the situation in coordination with relevant government agencies to ensure safe air travel.
