Agusan Sur Rolls Out Free Rides, Tours for Palaro Delegates

The Department of Education (DepEd) has praised the provincial government of Agusan del Sur for providing free transportation and guided tours for delegates attending the 66th Palarong Pambansa, calling the initiative a strong example of Filipino hospitality and support for young athletes.

Education Secretary Sonny Angara commended local officials led by Governor Santiago Cane Jr. for creating a more convenient and memorable experience for thousands of student-athletes, coaches, teachers, and visitors expected to attend the week-long national competition from May 24 to 31.

“Nakakatuwa na itong Palaro natin ay isa ring pagkakataon para maranasan ng ating mga kabataan ang malasakit, kultura, at ganda ng iba’t-ibang bahagi ng bansa,” Angara said.

Under the province’s “Libreng Sakay” program, delegates and spectators may use free e-buses and tricycles deployed across 36 competition venues located in Bayugan and the municipalities of Bunawan, Esperanza, Talacogon, Prosperidad, and San Francisco.

Organizers said the transport initiative aims to make travel between venues safer, easier, and more efficient throughout the sporting event.

Beyond transportation, delegates are also being offered complimentary tours to some of the region’s cultural and eco-tourism attractions.

The program includes visits to destinations such as Agusan Marsh Wildlife Sanctuary, Tugonan Falls, Bega Falls and Ecotourism Park, Puting Buhangin Cave, the Agusan Provincial Museum, and the Toog Centennial Tree.

Through a partnership between Agusan del Sur and Surigao del Sur, delegates may also visit tourist attractions in the neighboring province, including the Bretania Group of Islands and the Enchanted River.

Tour schedules are set from May 17 to 22 and again from May 27 to June 1, with transportation and entrance fees fully subsidized by the program.

Angara said the initiative demonstrates how local governments can help make the Palarong Pambansa more learner-centered by combining sports, culture, and tourism.

“These efforts remind our young athletes that every competition is also an opportunity to discover new places, cultures, and stories while building friendships and discipline through sports,” he said.
