Police secured a loose firearm after a concerned citizen voluntarily surrendered an abandoned revolver in Cebu City as part of the continuing campaign against undocumented weapons.

The Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) said the firearm was turned over at around 9:30 a.m. on May 12 at the Investigation Section of Regional Highway Patrol Unit 7 inside Camp Sotero Cabahug along Gorordo Avenue, Cebu City.

Authorities said the individual who surrendered the weapon requested anonymity for security reasons.

The firearm was identified as a caliber .38 Armscor revolver bearing serial number RIA2430749.

The revolver is now under the custody of investigators and will be submitted to the Regional Forensic Unit for ballistic examination and verification.

Rommel Batangan commended the citizen for cooperating with authorities and stressed the importance of public participation in efforts against loose firearms.

“The voluntary surrender of loose firearms significantly contributes to public safety and crime prevention. We encourage the public to continue cooperating with authorities in support of peace and order initiatives,” Batangan said.

The Highway Patrol Group also urged the public to immediately report abandoned firearms, loose weapons, and suspicious activities in their communities.
