Palace Denies Hand in Marcoleta Plunder Rap

Malacañang on Tuesday denied any involvement in the plunder complaint filed against Sen. Rodante Marcoleta, saying the case was based on documents submitted by the lawmaker himself.

Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the complaint stemmed from Marcoleta’s own statements of assets, liabilities and net worth, as well as his statements of contributions and expenditures.

“Hindi po,” Castro said when asked if the complaint came from Malacañang. “Sabi nga po natin, sa kanila nga po lahat galing iyan.”

Castro said the records cited in the complaint were not generated by the Palace but came from official submissions linked to Marcoleta’s declared assets and campaign finance disclosures.

She also pointed out that in the case of former lawmaker Mike Defensor, it was Marcoleta himself who identified Defensor as one of his campaign contributors.

Marcoleta, who placed sixth in the 2025 senatorial elections, earlier said he received P75 million in campaign donations but maintained that the funds were given when he was not yet a senatorial candidate.

The Palace statement came amid questions over the origin of the complaint and whether it was politically driven.

Castro insisted that Malacañang had no role in initiating the case, stressing that the issue should be viewed in light of the official documents filed by the senator.
