DND Chief to Address Shangri-La Defense Summit in Singapore

Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. will attend the 23rd Asia Security Summit, or Shangri-La Dialogue, in Singapore from May 29 to 31, as defense and security leaders gather to discuss the evolving strategic landscape in the Indo-Pacific.

The Department of National Defense (DND) said Teodoro will deliver a plenary talk on “Evolving Security Partnerships in a Fragmenting World,” with discussions expected to center on emerging security dynamics, defense partnerships, and new approaches to shared security challenges.

The defense chief is also expected to hold high-level engagements with foreign counterparts, policymakers, and other stakeholders on matters involving regional security cooperation and issues of mutual interest.

The Shangri-La Dialogue, organized by the International Institute for Strategic Studies, is regarded as one of the premier defense and security forums in the Indo-Pacific. It brings together defense ministers, military officials, policymakers, and security experts to exchange views on regional and global security concerns.

Teodoro also participated in last year’s forum, where he delivered remarks on “Cross-Regional Security Interlinkages.” In that address, he cited President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s keynote message at the 2024 Shangri-La Dialogue, which emphasized the importance of a rules-based international order in preserving regional stability and prosperity.

This year’s participation is expected to reinforce the Philippines’ engagement with regional partners at a time of shifting alliances, maritime tensions, and growing interest in stronger defense cooperation across the Indo-Pacific.
