Marcos Smirks at Sen. Imee’s No-El Claim

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. appeared to dismiss allegations of a possible no-election scenario in 2028 after he was asked to respond to claims raised by his sister, Sen. Imee Marcos.

The President reacted with a smirk when reporters sought his comment on the senator’s statement that there were supposed efforts to convene a constituent assembly and amend the 1987 Constitution, allegedly to pave the way for term extensions and the cancellation of the 2028 elections.

“What’s no-el?” Marcos initially said when asked about the issue.

“I wanted a no-election scenario?” he added, before smirking.

Senator Marcos earlier claimed that moves were underway to push Charter change through a constituent assembly, raising concerns that such proposals could lead to a no-election scenario in 2028.

The President’s brief reaction came amid renewed political debate over Charter change and accusations that constitutional amendments could be used to extend the terms of incumbent officials.

Malacañang has yet to issue a longer explanation on the President’s response, but his remarks signaled apparent disbelief over the allegation.
