Two individuals were arrested in Manila after agents of the National Bureau of Investigation uncovered an alleged online drug-selling operation using social media platforms.
The NBI-Dangerous Drugs Division said its operatives launched the entrapment operation on May 20, 2026 after monitoring a Facebook account allegedly used to sell and distribute illegal drugs, including marijuana, “Tuklaw,” and “Carts.”
Through cyber-patrolling, NBI agents also traced the activity to an Instagram account, where they were able to purchase one piece of Kush weighing 0.5 grams for P350 and one unit of Carts for P1,900.
The seized items were later examined by the NBI-Forensic Chemistry Division. Laboratory results showed that the items contained 0.4986 grams of marijuana and one milliliter of tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC.
According to the NBI, the findings confirmed that the persons behind the social media accounts were involved in the online sale of illegal drugs.
During the buy-bust operation in Manila, agents encountered three suspects who allegedly tried to evade arrest.
Authorities said a social worker assessed that a 16-year-old minor involved in the incident acted with discernment. The minor was apprehended along with a 20-year-old companion.
A 13-year-old minor who was also taken into custody was turned over to a government-run social welfare facility in Manila for proper care and intervention.
The two suspects are facing charges for violation of Republic Act No. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
The NBI said the operation highlights continuing efforts to monitor and stop the use of social media platforms in the sale and distribution of illegal drugs.
