Davao del Sur Marks Four Years As Insurgency-Free Province

The 10th Infantry “Agila” Division of the Philippine Army joined the provincial government of Davao del Sur on Monday in marking the fourth anniversary of the province’s declaration as insurgency-free.

The commemoration was held at the Provincial Capitol Grounds on May 25, four years after Davao del Sur was declared free from insurgency in 2022 following sustained security and community-based efforts against communist rebel influence.

Military officials said the milestone reflected the cooperation of security forces, local government units, stakeholders, and communities in dismantling the presence and influence of communist terrorist groups in the province.

Major General Alvin Luzon, commander of the 10th Infantry Division, said preserving the gains of peace would require continued unity and vigilance from all sectors.

“As we commemorate this important milestone, may we continue to work together in preserving the peace we have achieved and move towards lasting peace, progress, and sustainable development for future generations,” Luzon said.

Davao del Sur Governor Yvonne Cagas also emphasized the need to strengthen peace awareness among young people and protect the gains made by the province over the past four years.

The 10th Infantry Division reaffirmed its commitment to work with local governments, partner agencies, and communities to prevent the resurgence of insurgency in Davao del Sur.

The Agila Division also said its entire area of operation remains insurgency-free, with no active New People’s Army units monitored within its operational jurisdiction.

Officials said the continued absence of active rebel units reflects the sustained impact of the government’s whole-of-nation approach in maintaining peace, security, and stability in communities.

The anniversary program featured the symbolic release of doves and balloons, representing peace, unity, and continuing development in Davao del Sur.
