The Philippine Navy formally welcomed 69 newly commissioned naval and marine officers from the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) “TALANG DANGAL” Class of 2026, marking their transition from cadet life to active service in the naval profession.

The welcome reception was held on Saturday, May 16, at Baguio Country Club in Baguio City, following the commissioning of the new Ensigns and Second Lieutenants at Fort General Gregorio H. Del Pilar.

Philippine Navy Flag Officer in Command Vice Admiral Jose Ma. Ambrosio Ezpeleta led the reception for the new officers, along with three PMA cadets who completed their education at foreign service academies, including the Republic of Korea Naval Academy, Japan National Defense Academy, and Australian Defence Force Academy.

The event served as the Navy’s formal reception for its incoming junior officers and featured the symbolic presentation of their ATM cards, initial officer uniforms, and assigned fields of specialization.

In his message, Ezpeleta described the new batch as part of a more modern, technologically adept, and inclusive generation of military leaders.

“We also recognize your class as trailblazers of a modernized, tech-savvy, and more inclusive era of Filipino leaders. From shattering gender glass ceilings…to mastering the digital battlefield through artificial Intelligence and python programming, you are redefining what it means to be a defender of our archipelagic country,” Ezpeleta said.

He reminded the newly commissioned officers that their responsibilities would now move beyond classroom instruction and into the real demands of national defense.

“The weight of the nation’s security will no longer be a lesson in the classrooms, but a reality upon your shoulders. You will now become officially part of the naval profession, who must live by a deeper calling, one that entails you serving our maritime nation with honor, dedication and patriotism,” he said.

The Navy said the reception highlighted its support for young officers as they prepare to assume duties in the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

It also underscored the importance of professionalism, readiness, identity, and responsibility as the new officers begin their military careers in service of the country’s maritime security.
