CIDG Raid in Sultan Kudarat Yields High-Powered Firearms

Criminal Investigation and Detection Group operatives confiscated several high-powered firearms and arrested a suspect during an operation against loose firearms in Sultan Kudarat, authorities said Friday.

The operation was carried out before dawn on May 13 in Esperanza, Sultan Kudarat after police secured a search warrant for violation of Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

Working alongside local police units, CIDG personnel raided the area and recovered a submachine gun, a Garand rifle, and a caliber .45 pistol, along with magazines and assorted ammunition.

Authorities arrested a 48-year-old suspect identified only by the alias “Bert” after investigators found the firearms allegedly without the required licenses or legal authority.

Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. commended the operating teams and stressed the importance of sustained operations against illegal firearms.

“Patuloy po ang ating kampanya laban sa mga ilegal na armas na nagiging sanhi ng karahasan sa ating mga komunidad,” Nartatez said.

“We urge everyone to cooperate and comply with our laws on firearms. Ang bawat armas na hindi awtorisado ay panganib sa ating mga kababayan,” he added.

The PNP chief also emphasized that anti-criminality operations must continue to be conducted within the bounds of the law and with respect for human rights.

Police said the operation forms part of the PNP’s continuing campaign to curb the proliferation of loose firearms and prevent their use in criminal activities.

Authorities added that intensified coordination among police units remains crucial in preventing violence and maintaining peace and order in communities.
