LPA Formerly ‘Caloy’ Spotted East of Central Luzon; Isolated Rains Expected

The low pressure area (LPA) formerly known as “Caloy” was spotted east of Central Luzon on Friday, although most parts of the country are still expected to experience generally fair weather with isolated rainshowers, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.

In its 4 p.m. weather bulletin, PAGASA said the weather disturbance was estimated at 1,055 kilometers east of Central Luzon, near 16.0°N, 131.5°E, based on data gathered as of 3 p.m.

Despite the presence of the LPA, PAGASA said Metro Manila and the rest of the country may continue to experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms caused mainly by localized thunderstorms.

The weather bureau warned that severe thunderstorms could still trigger flash floods or landslides, particularly in low-lying and vulnerable areas.

Light to moderate winds from the northeast to northwest are expected over Luzon and Visayas, with coastal waters remaining slight to moderate at 0.6 to 2.5 meters.

In Mindanao, light to moderate winds from the southeast to southwest will prevail, while coastal waters will range from 0.6 to 1.2 meters.

PAGASA also reported that Metro Manila recorded a maximum temperature of 36.1°C at 2 p.m. and a minimum temperature of 28.2°C at 5 a.m.

Relative humidity peaked at 77 percent at 5 a.m. and dropped to 46 percent at 2 p.m.

Sunset in Metro Manila on Friday was expected at 6:17 p.m., while sunrise on Saturday is forecast at 5:28 a.m.
