LTO Summons Taxi Driver, Operator After QC Crash Injures Multiple Riders

The Land Transportation Office has summoned the driver, registered owner, and operator of a taxi involved in a road crash that reportedly struck around eight motorcycles in Quezon City.

In a statement, the LTO said the incident happened along 20th Avenue corner Aurora Boulevard and left several people injured.

The agency said the crash drew public attention after a video circulated on social media showing the taxi allegedly creating a serious hazard for motorists and other road users.

Following the incident, the LTO, through its Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID), issued a show-cause order against the Green and Smart Mobility taxi’s registered owner, operator, and driver.

They were ordered to appear before the IID at the LTO Central Office at 10 am on May 27, 2026 to explain why they should not be held liable for reckless driving, being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle, and employing a reckless, insolent, discourteous, or arrogant driver.

The LTO also directed them to submit the vehicle’s Official Receipt and Certificate of Registration, as well as a valid Certificate of Public Convenience.

The agency warned that failure to attend the hearing would be considered a waiver of their right to present their side, allowing the LTO to resolve the case based on available evidence.

The LTO also placed the taxi unit under alarm status and imposed a 90-day preventive suspension on the driver’s license while the investigation is ongoing.

LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao said the agency would not tolerate reckless driving that puts the public at risk.

“Hinding-hindi namin palalagpasin ang ganitong uri ng pagmamaneho na nagdudulot ng panganib sa mga inosenteng motorista at commuter,” Lacanilao said.

“Patuloy naming pananagutin ang mga drayber at operator na nagpapakita ng kapabayaan at kawalan ng disiplina sa kalsada,” he added.

The LTO said it would continue enforcing traffic laws and taking swift action against motorists and operators who endanger road users.
