The Philippine Army’s 10th Infantry “Agila” Division hosted an advance party from the Malaysian Army for preparatory activities ahead of the upcoming LAND MALPHI 24/2026 bilateral military exercise.

The two-day activity, which began on May 12 and concludes on May 13 at Camp General Manuel T. Yan Sr. in Mawab, Davao de Oro, focused on coordination and planning for the joint training exercise scheduled next month.

The Malaysian delegation was led by Lt. Col. Wazir Syafiq Bin Nodin, commanding officer of the 6th Royal Malay Regiment, who paid a courtesy call on 10th Infantry Division commander Maj. Gen. Alvin Luzon as part of the preparation phase.

With assistance from 10ID personnel, the Malaysian Army advance party inspected training facilities, billeting areas, conference venues, and other key sites to help ensure the smooth conduct of the exercise.

Both sides also conducted planning sessions and coordination meetings covering the series of combined training activities under the LAND MALPHI framework.

LAND MALPHI is an annual bilateral exercise alternately hosted by the Philippine Army and the Malaysian Army to strengthen defense cooperation and improve interoperability in territorial defense and counter-insurgency operations.

The exercise will include subject matter expert exchanges, cross-training activities, table-top exercises, staff exercises, and command post exercises focused on combined arms operations and battle staff planning.

Luzon said sustained military engagements between the Philippines and Malaysia play an important role in strengthening regional security cooperation and professional ties between the two armies.

“Preparatory engagements such as this enable both armies to establish effective coordination mechanisms and ensure the successful conduct of LAND MALPHI 24/2026. More importantly, it strengthens interoperability, mutual trust, and enduring partnership between the Philippine Army and the Malaysian Army in addressing shared security challenges,” Luzon said.

The 10ID said it remains committed to pursuing international military engagements that promote operational excellence, professional collaboration, and long-term defense cooperation with allied armed forces.
