DepEd Pushes Stronger Private Sector Support for Education

The Department of Education (DepEd) is strengthening partnerships with the private sector and international organizations as part of efforts to improve the quality of education and expand opportunities for Filipino learners nationwide.

During the Partners’ Appreciation Program held Friday in Mandaluyong City, Education Secretary Sonny Angara emphasized the importance of collaboration between government, businesses, and civic groups in addressing challenges in the education sector.

More than 200 partner-organizations, diplomatic missions, and institutions were recognized for supporting DepEd programs and reforms, including 15 groups that have maintained partnerships with the agency for at least 25 years.

Speaking before stakeholders, Angara described education as a shared responsibility that requires collective action to uplift communities and help break the cycle of poverty.

The event, themed “Partnerships that endure. Reforms that last,” highlighted the impact of public-private cooperation in improving learning outcomes, particularly in underserved and geographically isolated areas.

DepEd cited several success stories from partner-supported initiatives, including enhanced STEM learning programs, digital classrooms that improved student engagement, and school facilities that also serve surrounding communities.

Among the organizations recognized for long-term support were the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Metrobank Foundation, Ayala Foundation, SM Foundation, Aboitiz Foundation, and Gokongwei Brothers Foundation.

Other awardees included ABS-CBN Foundation, GMA Kapuso Foundation, Ronald McDonald House Charities, Knowledge Channel Foundation, and Philippine Business for Social Progress.

DepEd said aligning private sector initiatives with the agency’s national priorities would help ensure that reforms become sustainable and accessible to more Filipino students across the country.
