The local government of Quezon City has strengthened its push for accessible and sustainable transportation after adding eight new electric buses to its Libreng Sakay (Free Ride) program.

In a statement posted on Facebook, QC Mayor Joy Belmonte announced that the additional units will serve Route 6, which runs from Quezon City Hall to Gilmore via Tomas Morato. With the expansion, the total number of buses operating along the route will increase to 16.

“Good news, QCitizens! Mayroon tayong panibagong mga electric bus na madadagdag para sa Route 6: Quezon City Hall to Gilmore (via Tomas Morato) ng ating QCity Libreng Sakay,” Belmonte said.

The new electric buses are scheduled to begin operations on May 11, 2026, further boosting the city’s free public transport service aimed at easing commuting costs and improving mobility for residents.

According to the mayor, the newly deployed units are equipped with modern features designed to enhance passenger safety and comfort. These include free Wi-Fi connectivity, closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, ramps for persons with disabilities (PWDs), and onboard fire extinguishers.

Belmonte also emphasized the city’s long-term commitment to the program, saying, “At, take note, MAY FOREVER ang pagbibigay natin ng libreng sakay ha?”

The Libreng Sakay initiative, one of the flagship transport programs of the city government, continues to expand as part of Quezon City’s broader efforts to promote inclusive and environmentally friendly urban mobility.
