HPG Team Lauded for Refusing P200K Bribe in Pasay Anti-carnapping Ops

The National Police Commission (Napolcom) has commended a team from the Philippine National Police–Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) for rejecting a P200,000 bribe during an anti-carnapping operation in Pasay City earlier this month.

The recognition was given to members of the Southern District Highway Patrol Team of the Regional Highway Patrol Unit–NCR during a flag ceremony at the Napolcom Central Office in Quezon City.

In a statement, Napolcom said Police Major Karl Subere, Patrolman John Jefferson Danga, and Patrolman Emmanuel Tamayo demonstrated integrity and professionalism when they refused the bribe offer while carrying out their duties on April 16.

According to the agency, the officers apprehended two foreign nationals along Roxas Boulevard after their vehicle was found using a fake license plate. During the operation, the suspects allegedly offered P200,000 in exchange for their release, which the officers declined, leading to their arrest and the filing of appropriate charges.

Napolcom Commissioner Rafael Vicente Calinisan praised the officers, saying their actions reflect the core values expected of law enforcement personnel.

“Sa harap ng tukso, pinili nilang panindigan ang tama. Ganito ang pulis na dapat tularan: may integridad, may paninindigan at may pusong tapat sa paglilingkod,” Calinisan said.

He added that acts of honesty, especially in difficult situations, help rebuild public trust in the police.

“Sa bawat pulis na tumatanggi sa suhol, pinoprotektahan niya hindi lang ang sarili niyang pangalan, kundi ang dangal ng buong kapulisan,” he said.

Napolcom reiterated that while it continues to hold erring personnel accountable, it also recognizes those who exemplify integrity, as part of efforts to strengthen discipline, honor, and public trust within the Philippine National Police.
