Senate Clears Hospital Surgery for Detained Contractor Discaya

Pacifico “Curlee” Discaya, who remains in Senate custody over his alleged involvement in anomalous flood control projects, has been granted permission to undergo shoulder surgery later this week, Senate officials confirmed.

Senate Secretary Mark Llandro Mendoza said Discaya is tentatively scheduled for surgery on Thursday at an undisclosed hospital, after complaints of persistent right shoulder pain were verified by the Senate physician.

“Nag-request siya ng medical procedure, so pinayagan siya,” Mendoza said, noting the schedule is pending final clearance but is expected to proceed.

Discaya will be escorted by personnel from the Senate Sergeant-at-Arms during his hospital stay. He is expected to return to Senate custody within a week to continue his recovery.

Mendoza added that visitor access will be limited, subject to security protocols during his confinement.

Discaya has been detained at the Senate since September last year after being cited in contempt by the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee during hearings on alleged irregularities in government flood control projects. He remains the only resource person still under Senate custody in connection with the case.

The case stems from allegations of misrepresentation during earlier hearings, including conflicting statements regarding his wife’s condition, which became a point of contention in the investigation.

Senate officials said medical accommodations are being extended while ensuring custody and security arrangements remain in place throughout his treatment and recovery.
